Final Match - Chelmsford Away

(Thanks to Captain Fantastic for this report)

And so to the final match of the Winter - the re-arranged game against Chelmsford 2, and it pretty well summed up how the others have gone since Xmas.

Hodgey performed well, looking very sharp, and worked well to defeat his opposite No. 2 in straight sets.

The rest were all "if only's", and "so near yet so far".

Captain Fantastic Dave lost to Sean Lamont in 4 sets, although the 3 games he lost all went to 10 - aarrhh !!

Colin still managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in again losing to Wyn Edwards, again in 5 sets - aaarrrhhh !!!

Adrian obviously thinks a "best-of-five" means that you have to play 5 sets, and even then, he is determined to get his monies' worth, going down 10-9 in the fifth - aaaarrrrhhhh !!!!

And Purky showed us his true class, but shame it was only the 1st game, going down 3-1 - little arh !

Anyway, there you go, looks like we will be in the bottom 2. We have enjoyed Division 2 more this time, with some close games and some good socials (apart from the 2 home games we didn't provide food !)

I'm sure Hodgey will produce the statistics (especially as he will be way-out in front).

Piss-up on Weds 16th.

Skip

Chris - don't forget you owe Hodgey a bottle of Blue Nun.

Your Club Needs You!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

So the whole campaign comes down to the wire and our final match versus Chelmsford away. A victory is required to ensure Division 2 status for next season. Come on Team - we will fight them on the beaches!!

Captain Dave has good vibes about this match:

Purky is going to produce the class we all know he is capable of

Hodgey is going to finish off the job he should have finished off last week

Adrian is going to astound the World of Squash by winning in less than 5 games

Colin is going to prove that he does not always snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

And you have Captain Fantastic back................!!

Looks like 5 - 0 then.............?!

As an extra incentive - the player with the best result tonight will receive a bottle of wine...... provided by (as an even further incentive!!) the player with the worst result!

Game on and good luck!

Match 8 - Woodford Wells Home

A brief review of our latest encounter:

Chris has become the new Marcus by losing to not one but two girls in the same season! But, in his defence, at least these players were over the age of 12! And also they were once World ranked very highly. However they weren't that good - I'd have beaten them! ;-)

I'm feeling rather cocky at present seeing as I've extended my winning run to 5 in a row. I think I may have mentioned it once or twice too! Cue defeat next week then...

Adrian tried a variety of new tactics in his match this week including playing a drop shot (or was it a lob?) and feigning injury a la Bob Stone! Neither of them worked against a tricky opponent however, although you can never question that man's determination.

I never saw any of Colin's match, however at a guess I'd say he probably started well but then got the hump when things didn't go his way and threw a couple of toys out the pram! ;-) (That should add a bit of spice to our league game on Sunday!)

Captain Dave was as reliable as ever. Despite crying out "well that was on a Golden Plate" after burying an easy 'winner' in the tin, he still managed a solid win. However, the signs of ageing continue to surface. This time it was his hearing as he constantly asked Colin to repeat the score during the match and then in the bar afterwards a drinks order of "one lager top and half a lager" came back as a J2O with lemonade and a pint of Fosters!

Results:

Chris lost to Becky McRee 2-9 9-10 6-9
Paul beat Dave McKenna 9-6 10-9 9-0
Adrian lost to Phil Martin 9-10 1-9 9-3 7-9
Colin lost to Marc Thornley 6-9 3-9 7-9
Dave beat Nick Healy 9-1 4-9 9-3 9-8

Clements lost to Woodford Wells 2-3 (7-15)

And so Dave's prematch rallying call of turning up on time and securing back to back wins failed on both counts. But still an enjoyable night despite having to suffer another 3-2 defeat.

Crunch match next week fella's. Let's get it on!
